Given its fragile mountain ecosystem, agriculture is a risky venture in Bhutan. Thus, the Royal Monetary Authority initiated the noble initiative, the Priority Sector Lending (PSL), for the financial institutions to help the Bhutanese people manage and mitigate farming risks.
Overall to transform Bhutan’s economy through improved access to finance.
This initiative provides people with access to financial needs required for farming, manufacturing and service sectors. The initiative, in particular, aims to promote enterprise in the agriculture sector to enhance food self-sufficiency and gainful employment.
In RICB, the PSL is better known as the Crop Insurance.
